Is Disney After Hours Worth the Extra Money? Here’s Why I Say YES!

If you’re planning a Walt Disney World vacation, you already know there are a LOT of extras you can add to your trip. Between Lightning Lane, dining experiences, special events and all the other ways Disney can tempt you to spend a little more, it can be hard to figure out what’s actually worth the extra money.

One question I get asked is: Is Disney After Hours worth it?

After personally experiencing After Hours at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, my answer is yes.

And the biggest reason?

The wait times.

What Is Disney After Hours?

Disney After Hours is a separately ticketed nighttime event offered on select nights at select Walt Disney World theme parks. Because the number of tickets is limited, there are fewer people in the park during the event, which can mean significantly shorter waits for many attractions.

And there’s another part of After Hours that I really like: you can get into the park before the event officially begins.

Personally, I think this makes for a really good Disney day.

You don’t necessarily have to wake up early, rope drop the park and stay until you’re completely exhausted. Instead, you can sleep in, hang out at your resort, enjoy the pool or spend the afternoon at Disney Springs.

Then head to the park in the evening and make the most of your time once the After Hours event begins.

That can be a much more enjoyable way to spend a Disney day—especially if you’re not interested in being in a theme park for 12+ hours.

The Biggest Reason I Love After Hours: The Wait Times

Let’s be honest. Nobody goes to Disney because they love standing in line.

Waiting is just part of the experience, but it can take a surprisingly large portion of a normal park day.

That’s why After Hours can be such a good value for the right traveler.

And I have experienced this firsthand.

EPCOT After Hours

EPCOT might be my favorite example of why After Hours can be worth it.

The event features popular attractions such as Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Frozen Ever After and more, along with included snacks and select bottled beverages (offerings can change).

But for me, it comes back to Guardians. I rode Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind FOUR times in a row.

Yes. Four times.

That’s something I wouldn’t expect to accomplish during a normal park day without spending a lot of time in line. That alone made After Hours worth it for me.

If there are one or two attractions that you absolutely want to experience—or maybe experience more than once—After Hours can give you a very different strategy for your park day.

Instead of spending the entire day trying to fit everything in, you can use your regular park time differently and save some of your must-do attractions for the evening.

Magic Kingdom After Hours

Magic Kingdom After Hours is another one I’ve personally experienced, and this is where the shorter waits can really make a difference.

During the 2026 event, attractions included TRON Lightcycle / Run, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion and many other favorites. Disney notes that attraction offerings can change from one event to another.

TRON and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train are especially good examples of why I like After Hours.

These are attractions that can take a significant amount of time out of your day when the regular standby line is long. Being able to experience them with a much shorter wait can make a big difference in how much you accomplish.

But there's another reason I enjoy Magic Kingdom After Hours.

There’s just something about being in Magic Kingdom late at night when the crowds have thinned out.

It's a different feeling than being there in the middle of a busy afternoon. You can slow down a little, enjoy the atmosphere and still get a lot of rides accomplished.

And that's a pretty great combination.

Hollywood Studios After Hours

Hollywood Studios is another park where I think the reduced waits can make the extra ticket worthwhile.

Attractions such as Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Slinky Dog Dash are exactly the kind of rides that can have long waits during a regular park day.

If those are the attractions at the top of your must-do list, being able to experience them with less time spent waiting can be a huge advantage.

And again, I’m not interested in spending half of my Disney vacation standing in a line if I can avoid it.

Yes, Snacks Are Included

Another thing I like about After Hours?

The snacks.

During the event, Disney includes select snacks and beverages with your After Hours ticket. Depending on the park and event, offerings have included things like popcorn, ice cream novelties and select bottled beverages.

Is the popcorn the reason I would buy an After Hours ticket?

No.

But is it part of the overall value?

Absolutely.

If you're already planning to buy snacks throughout the evening, having those included is another nice perk.

And let's be honest: a Mickey ice cream bar tastes pretty good when you didn't have to pull out your wallet for it.

There Are Character Experiences, Too

After Hours isn't just about seeing how many rides you can cram into three hours.

Character experiences are also part of the event, although specific characters and experiences can vary.

With fewer people in the park, you may have opportunities to meet characters and take photos without sacrificing a huge portion of your evening.

That's especially nice for families who want to balance attractions with some of those classic Disney experiences.

Who Is Disney After Hours Best For?

I don't think After Hours is automatically right for every Disney traveler.

But there are some travelers for whom I think it makes a lot of sense.

I'd especially consider it if:

• You have limited time at Walt Disney World.

• There are several attractions you really want to experience.

• You want to ride some of the most popular attractions more than once.

• You don't love spending your vacation standing in lines.

• You're traveling with older kids, teens or adults who can handle a late night.

• You'd rather have a slower morning and make your big park push in the evening.

• You place a high value on your time.

Who Might Want to Skip It?

Here's where I think it's important to be honest.

Just because I love After Hours doesn't mean I think everyone needs to buy the ticket.

If you're traveling with very young children who won't make it through a late-night event, the value may not be there.

If your family loves a slow park day and doesn't care about riding a lot of attractions, you may prefer to spend that money elsewhere.

And if your Disney vacation budget is already stretched, there are plenty of ways to have a wonderful Disney vacation without adding every possible extra.

That's where personalized planning matters.

The question isn't simply, "Is After Hours worth it?"

The better question is:

"Is After Hours worth it for your Disney vacation?"

So, Is Disney After Hours Really Worth It?

For me?

100% yes.

I know adding another ticket to your Disney vacation can feel like a lot. But I think you have to look at what you're actually getting for the money.

During a regular park day, you may be paying for your park ticket, possibly purchasing Lightning Lane, buying snacks and drinks, and still spending a significant amount of time waiting for attractions.

With After Hours, you're getting a limited-capacity event, shorter waits on select attractions, included snacks and select beverages, character opportunities and early entry before the event officially begins.

But for me, the biggest benefit isn't the ice cream.

It's not even the extra hours.

It's time.

At Disney, your time is valuable.

The less time I'm standing in line, the more time I'm actually getting to enjoy Disney.

And after riding Guardians four times in a row, I'm pretty convinced that's money well spent.
